Field Engineer – Marine Construction
American Construction (ACC) has been a leading marine contractor for over 120 years. The company has an immediate opportunity and position opening for Field Engineers in Bellingham, WA. This position will provide onsite engineering and technical support, quality control, construction management assistance, surveying, and help to maintain a safe working environment. Heavy civil construction or marine construction experience is preferred. The Field Engineer will work closely with the Project Manager, Project Superintendent, Safety Manager, Quality Control Manager, Pile Drivers, and Operators to ensure successful projects and work. At the completion of the Bellingham project, this position may be reassigned to another project in the Puget Sound Area or assigned to support the home office in Tacoma, WA.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1) Assist the project team with the startup of projects:
a. Develop project work plans.
b. Assist with subcontracts and purchase orders.
c. Create and maintain contract documents.
d. Plan for equipment and construction related mobilization.
e. Assist with potential project staffing needs.
f. Develop pre-work submittals.
2) Jobsite Duties:
a. Assist project team with administrative jobsite duties, such as Submittals, RFI, Notice of changes and other documents.
b. Assist in maintaining weekly schedule as well as overall project schedule.
c. Coordinate work with Superintendents and Foremen.
d. Coordinate project activities with the owner’s representatives and other project stakeholders.
e. Ensure that project team members and work crews work in a safe manner and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and policies.
f. Interpret project plans and specifications.
g. Development jobsite specific work plans (JSA) to ensure quality, safe, and productive work.
h. Develop and review plans and submittals, to ensure conformance with project and identify associated conflicts.
i. Maintain project As-builts.
j. Manage subcontractors and vendors.
k. Schedule and plan for deliveries.
l. Inspect material deliveries for compliance with project requirements.
m. Survey support, in the form of hydrographic, topographic, and layout.
n. Compile quantities for payment.
o. Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.)
3) Home Office:
a. Assist estimating department with bid proposals for upcoming marine construction projects.
b. Support ongoing projects when assigned to the office.
Educational and Work Qualification:
1) Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
2) Prior work experience in the marine construction industry is preferred but not required.
3) Ability to learn the technical aspects of the projects; be an effective communicator; and interface well with employees in the organization.
4) To perform this job successfully, must be able to perform the duties stated in the responsibilities and duties sections above.
5) Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
6) Required experience with scheduling, estimating, drafting, and project management software i.e., Hard Dollar, Primavera, and AutoCAD software preferred.
Physical Qualifications:
1) Position will require travel, including visiting construction job sites. Will need to be able to drive regular passenger vehicles, must have a valid driver’s license.
2) Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. Due to the nature of where the work is performed, it is not always possible to provide workplace accommodation requests.
3) Must also be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or when it is required.
4) Be able to move around an active jobsite and physically get on and off work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters.
