POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing member behavior while embracing the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo. This includes social emotional learning skills, positive behavior support, mindfulness and meditation, daily behavior management, and training and supporting Youth Development Professionals in all the above areas along with working closely with the Unit Manager and Club Co-Leader - Quality.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all aspects of Managing Member Behavior including documenting in behavior packet, management forms, interventions, support plans, and communication with parent/guardian, Unit Manager, and Training Manager utilizing MyClubHub membership management platform as needed.
  • Assist with training staff on reframing conflict and de-escalating tools, trauma-informed and resiliency care, applying social emotional learning skills, group and individual interventions, and setting expectations including developing tools for YDPs to utilize when members return to the room.
  • Help foster positive relationships between members and staff and develop activities for YDPs to connect with members and ensure a warm handoff when members return to the room.
  • Support youth and staff by using reframing conflict and de-escalating tools in addition to positive behavior support methods as well as by observing and supporting in rooms and encouraging choice time. Encourage members and find ways to support youth staying in rooms.
  • Assist with ensuring a positive Club experience that supports positive youth development including multiple youth development methods through a trauma-informed and resilience lens.
  • Purchase sensory supplies and age-appropriate developmental resources for chill rooms.
  • Participate in SEL Coach cohort meetings at least once a month as a support group, to review processes that ensure member behavior systems and procedures are updated and relevant, and to determine training needs for staff.
  • Comply with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Participate in quality and Social Emotional Learning assessment tools including National Youth Opportunities Initiative (NYOI), Youth Program Quality Assessments (YPQA), and Hello Insight.
  • Develop and foster a positive climate for youth development based on the mission and goals of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo. Encourage members to actively participate in a variety of programs and activities and to seek advice and guidance from staff.
  • Provide services and resources to members to assist them in fulfilling and making appropriate personal, physical, social, emotional, and educational choices. Refer members to outside service agencies if deemed necessary.
  • Have a working understanding of Club activities, programs, and outcome-driven youth development methods to support staff and fill in for Youth Development Professional as needed at all unit locations.
  • Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as instruction and training tools for the responsibilities of this job.
  • Be cross trained with intake processes and fill in as needed at all unit locations.

Other

  • Assist with planning and implementation of Club special events, including fundraisers as requested.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation for business and proof of insurance.
  • Transport youth in Club vehicle to field trip locations and/or special events, if required. Maintain Chauffer’s license.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and/or trainings.
  • Display professional behavior in alignment with the Boys & Girls Club Personnel Policy and Standards of Conduct.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.


Requirements:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Associate degree in Family Consumer Sciences, Education, Social Work, or related field, or equivalent experience such as certification for National Afterschool Association competency levels 1 – 3.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience as paraprofessional or similar job as well as in training and facilitating experience in trauma-informed and resilience focused care.
  • Experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development organization with experience working with youth and diverse populations.

Skills, Knowledge, and other Competencies

  • Ability to effectively interact with members, including addressing discipline problems in age appropriate and non-punitive ways.
  • Enthusiastic about working with and engaging youth.
  • Experience in facilitating small groups with all ages. Ability to plan and execute a wide range of programs for youth of all ages that are creative, fun, and engaging.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Continuing required training as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team and promote a team culture.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with youth, parents/guardians, and other staff.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, scanner, and printer.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 25% of the time, along with regular standing, walking, bending, and carrying objects.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds at one time.
  • Frequently communicates with team members who have questions and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle to carry out work duties listed above.
