POSITION: Purchasing Manager

We are looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager with a strong background in retail purchasing, general purchasing practices, advanced Excel skills, and proficiency in working with database-driven systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all purchasing activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, developing strategic purchasing plans, and driving cost-saving initiatives while maintaining the highest standards of service quality from vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Departmental Collaboration: Meet with various departments to understand their purchasing requirements, priorities, and challenges. Collaborate closely with department heads to develop purchasing strategies aligned with organizational objectives.

  1. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant regulations and compliance standards related to purchasing activities. Ensure that all purchasing processes adhere to legal requirements, industry standards, and internal policies.

  1. Purchasing Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive purchasing plans that optimize costs while maintaining quality standards. Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains across the procurement lifecycle. Experience with Rebate programs and inventory valuation strategies.

  1. Vendor Management: Manage vendor relationships and contracts to ensure timely delivery of goods and services, adherence to quality standards, and competitive pricing. Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure favorable terms and conditions for the organization.

  1. Cost Optimization: Continuously evaluate purchasing practices and supplier performance to identify cost-saving opportunities. Analyze market trends, conduct price comparisons, and negotiate favorable terms to drive down costs without compromising service quality.

  1. Database Management: Utilize database-driven systems to streamline purchasing processes, track procurement activities, and maintain accurate records of vendor transactions. Leverage data analytics tools to derive insights and inform strategic decision-making.

  1. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of purchasing professionals to ensure effective execution of purchasing strategies and achievement of departmental goals. Provide guidance, support, and training to enhance team capabilities and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in retail purchasing, procurement, or related roles, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and modeling.
  • Familiarity with database-driven systems for procurement and inventory management.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to purchasing activities.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on driving continuous improvement and cost optimization.
  • Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Professional certification in purchasing or supply chain management (e.g., CPSM, CSCP).
  • Experience with e-procurement platforms or ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and best practices.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some general office activities are required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bending, standing, and walking as necessary.
