REQUIRED:

substituted with the approval of the COR.

At least one year of litigation paralegal experience required; trial

experience very helpful. Automated

litigation support experience valued. Must have basic legal knowledge,

including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and

memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such

as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research. Requires excellent written and oral

communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a

variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as

document review and file management systems: Relativity/Concordance),

spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.

Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of

e-discovery procedures and resources. Ability to consistently deliver highest

quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

Deliverable:

color:windowtext'>Working with attorneys and staff at the Civil Division within

the Department of Justice (DOJ) in daily paralegal efforts supporting the

Consumer Protection Branch (CPB). The CPB 'leads the Justice Department's

efforts to enforce consumer protection statutes throughout the United States.

The Consumer Protection Branch cases are rooted in our nation's fundamental

consumer protection laws, establishing crucial precedents and protecting

American consumers from threats to their health, safety, and wallet.'

color:windowtext'>Perform legal and factual research using electronic search

tools and other sources.

⿢

color:windowtext'>Draft subpoenas, discovery requests, correspondence, and

routine motions.

⿢

color:windowtext'>Review briefs to determine if cases are still good legal

authority, verify case citations and legal references, develop tables of

contents and tables of authorities for briefs, and ensure that formats of

documents to be filed with the court meet applicable court requirements.

color:windowtext'>Assist attorneys in preparing for all phases of litigation, including

pretrial discovery, motions, hearings, and trial.

⿢

color:windowtext'>Identify documents which may be privileged and prepare and

review privilege logs.

⿢

color:windowtext'>Analyze and draft synopses of transcripts of depositions,

hearings, and trials to identify legal and factual issues, and analyze

documents for supportive evidence.

color:windowtext'>Assist attorneys in conducting interviews with investigative

sources, expert witnesses, and prospective fact witnesses.

color:windowtext'>Provide necessary logistical arrangements and support

witnesses during trials and serve as trial coordinator to ensure that pre-trial

filings, exhibits, electronic presentation software, trial notebooks, etc., are

prepared and ready for trial.
