Volunteer Service Position: Cabin
Counselor

Reports to: Outdoor Center Director

POSITION
SUMMARY:

The Cabin Counselor
is responsible for supporting the Village Chief in the supervision of campers
in large and small group settings and for living in and leading a cabin with
5-7 campers.

ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Village
    Chief with the responsibility for the general safety and supervision of campers
    in assigned group.
  • Assist YMCA
    Instructors during activity periods.
  • Supervise and participate in all assigned
    aspects of the campers’ day which includes but is not limited to: Camper check-in and check-out; meal times;
    activities; and before/after hours duties as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in volunteer
    orientation sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent
must be 18 years of age or older and have knowledge in the supervision and
safety of children. He/she must possess leadership skills that can assist in
encouraging and motivation campers. The ability to teach songs, games, stories,
sports and other related skills is preferred. Incumbent must show enthusiasm,
dedication, responsibility and maturity.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Ability
    to walk, stand, sit, kneel & bend (including on the floor) for long periods
    of time.
  2. Exposure
    to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  3. Must
    be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  4. Must
    be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  5. Visual
    and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to
    act swiftly in an emergency

The Cabin Counselor

caring, honesty, respect & responsibility.
