Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in operating honing machines (especially Sunnen machines / ML-5000).
  • Knowledge of honing stones, abrasives, and tooling.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Understanding of machining processes and materials.
  • Proficient in measuring instruments such as bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, and gauges.

Experience

  • Prior experience in a machine shop or manufacturing setting up and operating honing equipment.
  • Experience with honing and other precision machining processes.

Communication Skills

  • Effective communication with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Machine Operation

  • Set up and operate honing machines according to specifications.
  • Select appropriate honing stones and abrasives.
  • Monitor the honing process and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with honing machines and processes.
  • Ability to detect imperfections and take corrective measures.

Quality Control

  • Inspect finished products for accuracy and quality.
  • Use measuring instruments to ensure dimensions and surface finishes meet specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of production and inspection results.
  • Document any changes to machine settings or processes.

Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance on honing machines.
  • Report any malfunctions or issues to maintenance personnel.

Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Additional Requirements

  • Openness to learning new techniques and technologies in honing and machining.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and handle physical tasks.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED: Basic educational background.
  • Vocational Training: Courses in machine operation, blueprint reading, and metalworking can be beneficial.
  • Certifications: Certification from recognized bodies in machining or specific to honing operations.
