The Mechanical Engineer researches, plans, and designs mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, etc. for aerospace industry.  Directs, coordinates and participates in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines
  • Performs static stress analyses on aerospace hardware and ground and test support equipment
  • Works with design engineers in developing type of structure, most practical design, and selection of materials for major components
  • Support designers in determining parts with adequate margins of safety, good load paths, low weight, and high producibility
  • Support static structural test definition, requirements, monitoring, data reduction, and comparison to analysis
  • Conducts plotting and data analysis including frequency domain and time domain type assessments
  • Conducts testing and/or test set up
  • Participates in manufacturing operations to develop, engineer and document new/novel processes
  • Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications
  • Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment
  • Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software


Education and/or Experience


  • BSME from a four-year college or university
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in an engineering environment or comparable field
  • Computer skills: MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint, MS Project preferred); SolidWorks and Drafting skills, RCAS Software experience preferred.
  • Experience with dynamic analysis and test (modal, vibration, shock) of structure and components (preferred)
  • Experience with Finite Elements Analysis (preferred)
  • Experienced with materials evaluation and testing for aircraft (preferred)
