Overview:

The Cash Applications Specialist is responsible for researching and resolving open customer payments and invoice short payments and performing payment history analysis. In addition, this role will conduct research for unidentified accounts and/or contact customer accounts; maintain all related support documentation; as well as participate in special department projects/initiatives as they arise. This position reports to the Cash Application Supervisor

The ideal candidate will have experience processing high-volume, full-cycle Accounts Receivable Cash Application including billing, deduction processing, and collections. Candidate needs to possess positive interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively, work efficiently, independently and with accuracy; maintain confidential information; be detail-oriented; exercise sound judgment and make accurate and timely decisions; has the ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Daily processing of cash receipts and postings to customer accounts
  • Resolving unapplied payment issues
  • Responding to inbound Cash Application related customer queries via phone or email
  • Placing outbound phone calls or emails in regards to Cash Application issues or questions that are related to customer accounts
  • Researching invoice short payments and overpayments, identifying root cause, and collaborating with the internal department(s) to expedite dispute resolution
  • Assist with special projects and annual external audit preparation
  • Daily, weekly, and month end reporting

Requirements

  • 4 year degree or equivalent work experience in Cash Application, Accounts Receivable, Collections, or other accounting area
  • A minimum of 2 years experience with full-cycle accounts receivable cash applications and accounting/billing systems
  • SAP Cash Application knowledge required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills are required
  • Strong accounting and recordkeeping skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exhibits customer focused behaviour, both internal and external customers
  • Self-starting, proactive approach to work
  • Experience in growing/changing environment

Educations and Certifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • This position will be in an office environment
  • Saturdays and some weekends may be required for month/quarter/year end close
