Key Responsibilities

  1. Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school/network goals and objectives.

  2. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.

  3. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that support language acquisition, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and effectively uses time for instruction.

  4. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual scholar’s needs, including scholars with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.

  5. Screens Home Language Surveys.

  6. Maintains and updates TESOL/Bilingual scholar files for accurate record keeping in accordance with state local and federal mandates.

  7. Identifies and assesses scholars for eligibility for TESOL/ Bilingual services.

  8. Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress.

  9. Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.

  10. Utilizes native language support in order to make the curriculum accessible to Multilingual Learners.

  11. Acts as a liaison between the scholar and other illuminators, staff members, and families.

  12. Administers federal standardized assessment (LAS Links).

  13. Provides guidance and professional development to teachers on strategies to support Multilingual Learners.

  14. Performs any and all duties as may be assigned by Administration.

Experience/Training:

  • Passion and enthusiasm for scholars.

  • State of CT TESOL Certification (111) requirements with proficiency in Spanish or (009) CT Bilingual Certification.

  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

  • Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

  • Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Successful prior teaching experience with multilingual students for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Capital Preparatory Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package. This is a full-time, exempt position.
