Internship Summary: The Intern, Collections main objective is to rehouse and rehang approximately 1000 period garments to improve their storage condition with safer hanging mechanisms and protection from dust. As a member of the 2024 Summer Internship Program cohort, the individual will have the opportunity to connect with their peers and other museum staff during lunchtime sessions, staff meetings, and museum programs.

Duration: The 2024 Summer Internship Program runs eight continuous weeks and 28 hours per week, from June 18th to August 9th.

Work Schedule: This internship is part-time, onsite position, required to work onsite 4 days per week. There will be documentation work which can periodically be completed remotely.

Responsibilities:  

  • Work collaboratively with a member of the collections team in a project to rehouse and rehang approximately 1,000 period garments to improve their storage condition with safer hanger mechanisms and protection from dust.
  • Remove garments from their current hanging systems and assess their condition.
  • Select the appropriate hangar size and dust cover size for each garment, ensuring proper protection and storage conditions.
  • Create and attach visual tags for the exterior of each garment, including an image and object information for ease of identification.
  • Document all rehousing and rehanging activities in the collections database/TMS, ensuring accurate and thorough record-keeping.
  • Assist Collections/Registrar with other tasks as needed.
