Job Title: Form Setter

Overview:

As a Form Setter, you will play a critical role in the preparation and setup of formwork for various concrete structures on highways, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure projects. Your primary responsibility will be to construct accurate and sturdy forms according to project specifications and blueprints, ensuring the proper alignment and dimensions for concrete pouring. Your expertise in form setting will contribute to the successful completion of high-quality and durable infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand the requirements for formwork construction.
  • Measure and mark layout lines on the construction site, following engineering drawings and instructions.
  • Assemble and install formwork systems, including wooden, steel, or composite forms, to create molds for concrete structures such as bridge abutments, retaining walls, and culverts.
  • Ensure proper alignment, levelness, and stability of forms by using tools such as spirit levels, plumb bobs, and laser levels.
  • Secure formwork in place using appropriate fasteners, braces, and supports to withstand the pressure and weight of poured concrete.
  • Install reinforcing materials, such as steel bars or mesh, within the forms to enhance the structural integrity of concrete elements.
  • Collaborate with construction team members, including carpenters, concrete finishers, and equipment operators, to coordinate formwork installation and concrete pouring activities.
  • Monitor formwork during concrete placement to detect and address any issues or adjustments needed to maintain desired dimensions and finishes.
  • Remove forms and associated hardware once concrete has cured sufficiently, ensuring minimal damage to the concrete surface.
  • Clean and maintain formwork materials and equipment and store them properly for future use or transportation.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Proven experience in heavy highway construction or related field, with specific expertise in formwork setting for concrete structures.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculating dimensions, angles, and material quantities.
  • Knowledge of various types of formwork systems and their assembly techniques, including traditional timber forms, modular forms, and prefabricated systems.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Excellent spatial awareness and attention to detail to ensure precise form alignment and construction.
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, and manual labor in outdoor construction environments.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and follow instructions from supervisors.
  • Commitment to workplace safety practices and adherence to industry regulations and standards.
