Dock Operator Responsibilities:
  • Loading and Unloading: The forklift operator is responsible for moving goods from incoming delivery trucks to the dock or warehouse, and vice versa. This involves picking up, transporting, and placing items on pallets or shelves.
  • Inspection: They often inspect shipments for damage or discrepancies before accepting or moving them. This ensures that the inventory received matches the purchase orders and is in good condition.
  • Inventory Management: The operator may assist in organizing and managing inventory by placing goods in designated storage areas and keeping track of stock levels. This could involve using a barcode scanner or inventory management system.
  • Safety Checks: They must adhere to safety protocols, including checking that the forklift is in good working condition, using proper lifting techniques, and ensuring that the dock area is free of hazards. Sit down forklifts and Stand Up Hilo equipment. Experience in both is a plus
  • Communication: Forklift operators frequently communicate with warehouse staff, supervisors, and delivery drivers to coordinate the flow of goods and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Documentation: They might be required to fill out or verify shipping and receiving documents, including bills of lading, packing slips, and inventory logs.
  • Maintenance: Regular maintenance and minor repairs on the forklift may be part of the job to ensure it remains in operational condition.
  • Compliance: They must comply with company policies and regulations, as well as industry standards related to handling and storing goods.
  • RF Scanners: utilizing inhouse technology to properly and efficiently track incoming/outgoing materials.
Dock Operator Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • General understanding of RF Scanners
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Stand Up Forklift
  • Sit down Forklift
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
