Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescriptionProvides music therapy consultation and services to the patient in accordance with the interdisciplinary Plan of Care.
  • PRN: As needed
  • Per diem, paid per visit

Key Responsibilities
  • Visits the patient/family for an initial assessment of music therapy needs, when requested, in accordance with the interdisciplinary Plan of Care.
  • Assists in determining and recommending appropriate music therapy experiences utilizing singing/instrument work, song writing, music relaxation, drum work, breath work and/or rhythmic movement.
  • Evaluates the patient’s needs and interests and establishes a treatment plan.
  • Directs and participates in instrumental and vocal music activities designed to meet patients’ physical or psychological needs.
  • Assists the patient with life review through music.
  • Assists the patient with increased socialization through music
  • Assists the patient with music therapy to improve physical comfort.
  • Helps the patient/family to understand, accept and follow music therapy recommendations and provides musical interventions planned to assist the patient in achieving optimum benefits.
  • Documents all services provided to hospice patient and families.
  • Records and reports the patient’s response to treatment and any changes in the patient’s condition. 
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely manner according to Good Shepherd Hospice policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient/family status. 

Skills Knowledge and Expertise
  • Completion of an accredited program in music therapy.
  • Must be certified in the State in which they are providing Music Therapy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the hospice philosophy of care.
  • At least one year of experience in a health care setting. Previous experience in 
  • working with the terminally ill preferred
