SUMMARY
The Buyer/Planner role ensures that daily production requirements are met through demand analysis and control of supply chain response. The position works collaboratively with internal departments to ensure that deadlines and schedules are met, preventing line stoppages/delays, and maintaining a high level of customer service.
The planning duties will assist the Master Planner position with planning customer order fulfillment, including make to stock and make to order methods. Focus will be to utilize methods and tools for analysis of the planning process for efficiency and a higher percentage of production planning preparedness
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work with Material Planning, Sales and Operation departments to resolve issues, update material schedules and ensure a smooth flow of goods in the supply chain. Communicate effectively with internal departments on any potential impact or risk of delivery materials or supplies on time in order to meet business requirements.
- Takes accountability for meeting commitments and deadlines.
- Manages material availability through reviewing the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) signals daily, (includes bottlenecks, exceptions, and planned orders). Creating, modifying, and maintaining realistic material input schedules and procurement strategies for NPI and product phase-outs.
- Understands and ensures material availability for engineering changes and works closely with internal departments to follow/enhance processes to drive continuous improvement in customer service, inventory, quality, and time-to-market measurements.
- Executes purchase orders for indirect purchases (CapX) and direct (BOM/production) components in a timely manner and work with suppliers to coordinate shipments, expedites and consignment logistics. Works with Finance and Receiving departments to resolve any receipt/invoicing issues.
- Drives resolution with suppliers on component availability related issues/concerns to ensure shipment and on-time performance to support production requirements.
- Identifies alternative sources of material and execute spot buys as necessary to support production.
- Responsible for inventory levels related to specific product lines and/or assigned project work.
- Identifies inventory trends and makes recommendations to safety stock levels based on product lifecycles, forecast, and demand patterns.
- Manages item record data as required (safety stocks, reorder points, lead times, etc.).
- Analyzes proposed changes in material planning and assesses the impact on day-to-day activity.
- Applies knowledge and experience to recommend business process improvements.
- Leverages experience and skill set to material planning processes and methods.
- Advanced project coordination – coordinate complex projects requiring new procedures and methods such as implementing a new system or process. Provide technical support when analysis is required.
- Ability to effectively make decisions with limited time and information – can determine decision making criteria based on priorities.
- Provide clear and concise written communications, able to develop presentations, documentation, and training on complex subjects. Must be able to present the material to a variety of audiences.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Supply Chain, Operations, Business or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in Procurement and/or Planning.
- Evidence of analytical aptitude.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, ERP and analysis methods and tools.
Preferred:
- Database skills or advanced knowledge of Excel.
