Barrday, a manufacturer of composite materials, is in search of a Quality Engineer.

We are headquartered outside of Toronto, Canada in Cambridge, ON, with manufacturing facilities in Charlotte, NC and Millbury, MA. Our success is based on developing technologically advanced fiber reinforcement, prepreg and other material solutions for our customers in the aerospace, defense, industrial, energy and protective markets.

SUMMARY

As a member of the Quality team you will be responsible for assuring that our Millbury facility functions to the full extent of stated quality management system. You will be an active participant within the plant operations team and will interact daily with customers, suppliers, management and skilled labor. In addition, you will provide technical service and trouble-shooting on customer issues and lead continuous improvement projects. You bring with you to the role a professional degree and a solid background in manufacturing, process and quality engineering.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Evaluate and rectify customer complaints and product non-conformances
  • Drive Continuous Improvement Efforts
  • Audit and maintain QMS documents
  • Manage customer specifications. database and document control process.
  • Contribute to ongoing customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in the NCR and MRB processes and maintain the corrective and preventive action database.
  • Assist in the management of the contract review process on new customer orders to ensure adherence to customer specifications and special PO requirements.
  • Assist the engineering team in maintaining the management of change process within the QMS.
  • Develop, implement and document Quality Assurance Systems and Applications; such as ISO/ AS9100 requirements.
  • Develop and document test methods for manufactured composite materials, polymers, fabrics and fibers
  • Train Quality Technicians in the performance of Mechanical, Physical and Chemical testing.
  • Review Test data for accuracy and adherence to material specifications.
  • Coordinate, organize and conduct internal and external Quality System Audits.
  • Take ownership for the continuous reduction in the Cost of Quality metrics.
  • Promote continuous improvement through coaching, facilitating and training in the use of quality tools such as SPC and Six Sigma.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical technical discipline; Composites or Polymers experience an asset.
  • Experience in QC testing methods
  • Experience using statistical process control tools
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Proven ability to collaborate in a team environment and across departments

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Quality Engineer position requires both office work and the ability to work in a chemical manufacturing and laboratory environment. The position is on-site and will require frequent sitting, during office work, and walking and standing for long periods while managing the labs or auditing the manufacturing processes. Lab and manufacturing operations are located within two separate buildings at the site.
