Assembles, reworks, and tests assemblies, subassemblies, components, products, or systems. Extensive understanding of work flow process. Contributes to continuous improvement of process. Works under minimum supervision and helps supervisor deliver instruction to other assemblers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Mounts and solders surface mount and through-hole components, such as transformers, resistors, transistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and sockets, on a printed circuit board.

  • Reads work orders, follows production drawings and sample assemblies, or receives verbal instructions regarding assembly duties to be performed.

  • Positions and aligns parts in specified relationship to each other in a jig, fixture, or other holding device.

  • Screws, solders, cements, press fits, or perform similar operations to join or secure parts in place.

  • Connects component lead wires to printed circuit or routes and connects wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals, and contact points.

  • Installs finished assemblies or subassemblies in cases.

  • Assembles and attaches hardware, such as caps, clamps, straps, and switches, to assemblies.

  • Performs network go-not-go testing and inspection to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards.

  • Performs troubleshooting and some module swapping in order to repair product.



EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Prefer high school diploma or general education development (GED) certificate

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Competent through-hole and surface mount soldering ability. Should have a practical knowledge of IPC-610 Class II workmanship standard.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Must have manufacturing process experience. Generally require at least a year of manufacturing assembly experience with solid experience in SMT and FP soldering; however, level of competency may increase/reduce assembly experience time requirement.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Solid communication skills and ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels. Must have solid practical skills in electronics manufacturing and the ability to use common tools. Must have surface mount and fine pitch soldering experience. Ability to participate in actively developing a manufacturing process/improvement.
