Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search is a hunger relief organization that provides food, nutrition education and innovative programs in order to reduce food insecurity and increase equitable access to food. We serve 200,000 people every month through a network of 330 partners in 42 counties in Missouri and Illinois. We use a combination of immediate food assistance and supportive services, while also working on long-term solutions and systemic changes to help solve the problem of hunger.

Position Summary:

The Nutrition Educator will promote and support the nutrition education programs in accordance with OFS’s mission and goals, lead nutrition focused culinary courses, cooking demonstrations, and other nutrition related events as assigned, and is expected to follow all protocols and procedures surrounding the nutrition education programs. This role is a PRN position and should expect to work two 4-5 hour shifts a month.


Essential Functions:

  • Teach nutrition lessons, cooking demonstrations and presentations in accordance with OFS's mission and goals as assigned.
  • Follows all standard operating procedures for classes and cooking demonstrations.
  • Adequately prepare for classes and cooking demonstrations, including but not limited to, packing supplies and groceries, and transporting materials to and from sites.
  • Collaborate with nutrition education staff to develop additional materials for cooking classes and participants as needed.
  • Work with other Operation Food Search departments as needed; assist with promotional events
  • Maintain working knowledge of hunger, food, and nutrition related issues.
  • Flexibility in working hours.
  • Assist with other OFS duties as required or as assigned.

Special Requirements:

  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Occasional travel required for meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Flexibility in working hours for occasional special events after-hours or weekend activities.


Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time in a hot or cold environment.
