We are continuing to grow, and are looking for a Staff Counsel to join our team

The Staff Counsel is responsible for performing due diligence, analyzing and summarizing legal documents; reviewing contracts and agreements and highlighting any potential legal issues; drafting commercial agreements; and supporting all aspects of in-house counsel. The successful candidate will effectively ensure legal conformity and minimize probability of exposure. Provides a variety of general corporate and commercial legal services to a number of in-house clients. Acts as advisor on legal issues involving the organization’s government and regulatory compliance. Reviews legal data and advises organization on appropriate legal action to be taken. Coordinates litigation and other legal matters handled by outside counsel. Demonstrates experience in general corporate matters, including corporate organization, contracts, drafting transactional documents, license agreements, employment law, immigration law, data privacy, risk management asset-backed financing, and contract management. The Staff Counsel position is a hybrid position requiring 2+ days per week in-office in our Woodbury, LI office.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs due diligence, analyzes and summarizes legal documents
  • Reviews contracts and agreements and highlights any potential legal issues
  • Drafts commercial agreements and non-disclosure agreements
  • Tailors legal concepts to and understands the needs of internal clients with varying degrees of legal and contractual knowledge
  • Researches and evaluates different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
  • Offers proactive advice on potential legal issues
  • Provides guidance and counseling on employment, labor and immigration law issues and HR policies
  • Works with outside immigration counsel to assemble visa petitions and supporting documentation for foreign nationals
  • Conducts the work with integrity and responsibility
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in legislation

Skills Required:

  • J.D. degree and New York bar admission or registration required
  • 1-5 years of experience working for a law firm or corporate legal department
  • Strong knowledge of contract law and ability to review and draft contracts
  • Ability to deliver solution-oriented advice to internal clients
  • Familiarity with non-disclosure agreements
  • Exposure to immigration and employment law, a strong plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Ability to work, learn and think independently
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft Office products

The compensation range posted for this position represents the anticipated minimum and maximum compensation for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The exact compensation offered will depend on several factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, training, education and/or physical location; internal equity; and, budget.
