POSITION SUMMARY

 

Supervises, directs and coordinates the daily and on-going activities and services of the Admitting Department, both inpatient and outpatient. Following corporate policies and procedures, the Admissions Coordinator manages the referral intake and the coordinating of patient admissions.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

 

This position prefers a high school graduate with two (2)-years’ experience in a related healthcare field preferred. Previous experience in third party reimbursement, as a nurse liaison, or other related experience, is desirable. The Admitting Supervisor must possess and demonstrate expertise in organizational, time management, and communication skills. They must have knowledge and acceptance of facility philosophies, policies, programs, and services. In addition, the Admitting Supervisor must display expertise in problem solving, observation, group dynamics, and interpersonal relations. An ability to work independently and to prioritize responsibilities is also a must. The Admitting Supervisor takes ownership of the admission process ensuring a smooth transition for the patient, the family, and the clinical staff.


POSITION SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE MEASURES:


Supervisor:

  • Creates and maintains the schedule for all shifts, schedule changes based on coverage availability, workload and policy considerations.
  • Assist with continuous education of existing admitting staff.
  • Creates and updates the Admitting Policy and Procedure manual as appropriate in cooperation with Director, Business Office.
  • Completes employee evaluations in a timely fashion; both annual and probationary.
  • Appropriately delegates tasks while maintaining ultimate responsibility.
  • Coaches and mentors staff in a constructive way; provides staff education.
  • Disseminates information in a timely fashion, following chain of command. Develops/utilizes good systems of communication that work effectively; offers solutions to communication problems.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels for the department.
  • Conducts good negotiations with vendors, employees, management, etc., as needed.
  • Conducts monthly department meetings, to include regular in-services regarding Safety and Infection Control.

Management:·        

  • Demonstrate a cost conscious attitude, as reflected by analysis prior to approval/purchase of department equipment and supplies.  Organize an effective system of inventory/supply control.  Cooperate with periodic Hospital inventory audits by submitting department equipment/supplies report within required time frame.         
  • Recommend, develop, and implement new policies, functions, and services, as well as continually seeking improvements to existing programs.
  • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals.
  • Provide effective performance feedback through employee evaluations, recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.         
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.         
  • Maintain open communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, appropriate email, and regular interpersonal communication.
