Position: Director of Elementary Ministry

Reports to: Deacon Art Casias

Denton, TX 76207

The Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas includes 91 Parishes, and 19 schools. It stretches from Quanah, Texas just northwest of Wichita Falls in the West and extends to Penelope, Texas in the Southeast. Its largest metropolitan areas are Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton, and Wichita Falls. The principal duty of all employees is to assist in the mission of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas.

General Position Summary: The Coordinator of Youth Ministry is to work with the Church to walk with young people (generally grades 1st-5th) and their families in becoming active lifelong disciples in Christ. This is accomplished through pastoral, liturgical and catechetical approach toward evangelization and catechetical formation. The Coordinator of Elementary Youth Ministry provides primary leadership for the design and implementation of parish ministry to its youth. The Coordinator is to work on forming parents and adults to also walk with these youth in their faith in order to make disciples as well. All catechetical instruction must be in keeping with the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement processes of Formation for Elementary Youth (grades 1st-5th) in accordance with the vision and guidelines of the Diocese of Fort Worth for Faith Formation and Youth Ministry
  • Coordinate all Elementary related activities on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Oversee the Sacramental Preparation for the Sacrament of 1st Communion.
  • Recruit, train and ensure Safe Environment compliance for all adult catechists and volunteers for Ministry.
  • Prepare and maintain annual budget(s) for Ministry in collaboration with Pastor and/or Business Manager.
  • Works in collaboration with the Formation Department to ensure that enrollment of students is accomplished. This insures that all necessary records of students and catechists are correct.
  • Supervise the Assistance to Elementary Formation.
  • Continue professional growth and development through participation in diocesan catechetical workshops, in-services, youth ministry workshops, and/or continuing education.
  • Must be bilingual.
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel required several times a year for retreats and continuing education.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Active member of the Catholic Church

Bachelor’s degree in theology with religious education emphasis or bachelor’s degree in education with Catholic adult formation certification

Minimum five years’ experience as Coordinator or Director of Formation

Good organizational and administrative skills, including competency in Microsoft Suite and familiarity with databases.

Possess leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with parish staff and volunteers.

Being bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding business needs, tight deadlines and heavy workloads.
