The Medical Assistant (AT-C) will perform administrative and clinical duties on a daily basis to facilitate efficient operations in an outpatient clinic setting. Assist Physicians/Providers in providing safe, quality care and customer service to patients.
Responsibilities
There may be variations in the duties and responsibilities of the medical assistant determined by the specialty and the physician with whom he/she works.
- Performing administrative office procedures, including:
- monitoring physician schedules and scheduling patient appointments.
- coordinating appointments and procedures for patients.
- separating and prioritizing the physician’s mail.
- gathering and managing necessary documents (i.e. medical record, test results).
- triaging and responding to physician’s phone calls, as needed.
- Performing clinical activities and procedures, including:
- obtaining patient history and vital signs.
- preparing and maintaining the examination and procedure room(s).
- assisting with examinations, procedures and treatments (i.e. applying casts, removing sutures).
- administering medications, as permitted by law.
- recognizing and responding to emergencies.
- coordinating patient care information with other health care providers.
- documenting information in patient records.
- Educating/instructing patients regarding their medical condition, treatments, medications and other appropriate information.
- Ensuring availability of supplies and proper operation of equipment in the examination and procedure rooms.
- Assisting in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Completing other comparable duties and assignments as directed by the Physician and/or Clinical Staff Manager.
- Travel from site to site is required.

- Experience in orthopaedic or rheumatology medicine preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Current Illinois AT-C License
- Current BOC Certification
- Must be physically able to assist patients during ambulation and examination.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of a changing scheduling environment and accommodate the needs of the practice.
- Possess good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications. Able to interact with computers to enter data or process information.
- Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to document/record information.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well and communicate professionally with physicians, patients and staff in all levels in the organization. Able to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
- Capable of prioritizing and organizing information to achieve a smooth flow of tasks.
- Ability to interpret and explain an extensive variety of instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Work may require hand dexterity for phlebotomy, office machine operation, using calculator and/or computer keyboard. Physical demands may also include stooping, bending or reaching to files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, standing or sitting for extended periods of time and viewing a computer monitor.
