Position: Men's Associate Wrestling Coach

Position Overview:

The Associate Wrestling coach is responsible for collaborating with the head coach in leading a successful program at Manchester University. The associate wrestling coach will evaluate, recruit, coach, and mentor, qualified student-athletes that will compete at a high level in the classroom and on the mat. The associate coach is also responsible for aiding the head coach in the organization of team practices, meets, tournaments, travel arrangements, budget, fundraising, and creating a comprehensive recruiting plan. The associate wrestling coach will serve in an administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Athletic Director.

Essential job functions:

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach in:
    1. Eligibility, including:
      • Oversee student-athlete academic process, be available for consultation/support for student-athletes, and direct student-athletes to the appropriate academic professionals to ensure academic success
      • Monitor student-athlete eligibility during the academic calendar.
        • Works with the Student Success Center to coordinate academic support for student-athletes.
    2. Recruiting, including:
      • Recruitment of student-athletes with a commitment to academic success.
      • Supervise and coordinate athletic recruiting efforts with coaching staff and admissions counselors.
      • Provide an annual recruitment plan to the athletic recruiting liaison.
      • Report on the recruitment plan.
    3. Retention, including:
      • Work with the Athletic Director to establish retention programs.
      • Maintain a satisfactory retention rate.
      • Track retention rates
        • Benchmark internally, within the University, and
        • Externally, with other NCAA Division III schools.
      • Report on retention progress.
    4. Budget, including:
      • Collaborate with Director of Wrestling as the initial budget request is prepared.
      • Order equipment through established procedures.
      • Arrange team transportation, make hotel reservations, and organize team meals on off-campus trips.
      • Complete a yearly inventory. Issue, collect, and store all equipment. Arrange for equipment repair.
    5. Coaching, Scheduling and Team Management, including:
      • Determine goals and objectives for sport within the philosophy of the institution.
      • Organize and conduct practice sessions.
      • Assist in hiring, mentoring, and supervising of student workers, assistant coaches, and volunteer assistants.
      • Ensure appropriate safety precautions during practice, matches, and team travel along with the director of wrestling. And, directly responsible when director of wrestling with the men or women.
      • Cooperate with the Athletic Training staff by submitting practice schedules, and competition schedules, and completing roster information in a timely manner.
      • Work with the Sports Information Director regarding internal and external publicity.
      • Work with the Director of Athletics or Assistant Director of Athletics on scheduling and travel details.
      • Work with the Director of Athletics on field or court preparations and ensure facilities are set up.
      • Arrange for alternate eating plans if practice times conflict with the food service schedule.
      • Establish guidelines for the proper conduct of student-athletes.
      • Recommend student-athletes for awards.
      • Provide adequate feedback and evaluation to student-athletes as to potential, progress, and performance.
      • Responsible for driving University owned vehicles to away competitions.
      • Complete reports as required for the athletic department.
    6. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working directly with athletes and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Willingness to enhance professional growth by attending clinics and workshops as well as belonging to national and state coaching associations.
  • Ability to represent the Athletic Department in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.
  • Ability to abide by the rules for the sport of the NCAA, HCAC, and Manchester University at all times.
  • Ability to attend athletic staff meetings, mandatory student-athlete programs, admissions events, sports banquets and athletic fundraising activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in all environments.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, progress toward bachelor’s degree required.
  • Coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
  • Experience in NCAA Division III athletics preferred, as a coach or student-athlete.
  • Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test.
  • CPR/AED First Aid Certification required (available on-site).

Work schedule: This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. This is a twelve (12) month position. Travel is required and includes flexible work hours, especially in-season. M-F with weekends required in-season.
