Job Description:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Technical Writer to join our team. This remote position requires occasional on-site work in Suffolk, VA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical documentation and a deep understanding of complex technical concepts, particularly within government or defense sectors. A minimum Secret clearance is required for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Documentation:
- Develop, write, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including user manuals, system guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical specifications.
- Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documents suitable for various audiences, including technical staff, end-users, and management.
Content Development:
- Work closely with engineers, developers, and subject matter experts to gather, analyze, and document technical information.
- Create diagrams, charts, and illustrations to complement written content and enhance understanding.
- Ensure all content is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant standards and guidelines.
Document Management:
- Organize and maintain a library of technical documents, ensuring that versions are controlled, and all documents are easily accessible.
- Review and edit documents to ensure consistency, clarity, and quality.
- Assist in the development and implementation of documentation templates and style guides.
Compliance and Security:
- Ensure all documentation adheres to security and classification guidelines, particularly within a government or defense environment.
- Collaborate with security teams to ensure that all documentation meets the required security standards and does not compromise sensitive information.
On-Site Collaboration:
- Occasionally work on-site in Suffolk, VA, for collaborative meetings, project kick-offs, and other critical tasks that require physical presence.
- Build strong working relationships with on-site teams to facilitate effective communication and information gathering.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Active Secret clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in a government or defense-related environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and diagramming software (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart).
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
Preferred:
- Experience with technical writing in an IT, engineering, or software development context.
- Familiarity with government and DoD documentation standards and practices.
- Knowledge of content management systems (CMS) and version control software.
