Preamble:


The following is the job description for a part time (18 hours per week) that would guide a staff member in creating a new, dynamic fruitful Religious Education Program that reflects the needs of the parish community in accord with the teachings of the Catholic Church and Guidelines of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.


Reports to: Pastor

Qualifications:


  • Must be in full support of our church's vision and core teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Faith as well as the ability and willingness to continue education (formally or informally)
  • An attitude of "missionary discipleship" and not merely administration. The overall goal remains inviting people to lives as Disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • A"self starting person" who takes initiative and possesses a love for people as well as an energetic attitude and an outlook that sees the positive potential of people within the Church and outside the Church.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including use of E-mail, Word, and Excel,
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and follow-through on assignments (while observing any deadlines).
  • Ability to work efficiently, effectively and independently as well as with teams.
  • A commitment to good interpersonal relationships, teamwork and support of church people, practice and place of ministry, and a pleasant personality.
  • A commitment to confidentiality regarding all records of the Church, staff, and the members and a high level of trust. (A violation of trust will result in immediate dismissal).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; Communicates well with Church members, employees of the Archdiocese and Foundations, community groups and staff members.
  • A desire to grow in professional skills.
  • Experience in recruiting and motivating volunteers, communicating project goals and positively encouraging volunteers toward fulfillment of stated goals.
  • Ability to deal with issues positively, finding effective solutions or seeking assistance as needed.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task; and remain flexible with schedule interruptions.

Job Description:


Forming a new generation of intentional Missionary Disciples of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Faith. The role includes:


  • Coordination of Religious Education for Students who do not attend Catholic School
  • Establish and implement goals for the Parish Religious Education Program.
  • Recruitment and Formation of the Catechists needed for the Program through parish-based opportunities, the Catholic Life Congress and Catechetical Forum.
  • The Pastoral Associate will coordinate with the Office Manager to ensure compliance with Safe Environment Policies for all catechists and volunteers in the program.
  • Maintain contact with Parents and Guardians of children in the program in ways that ensures they are "the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith."
  • Order books and materials necessary for Religious Education and Sacramental programs.

  • Work with the Pastor on scheduling the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation and two Penance Services. Coordinate Parent Meetings, Retreats and communications with parents for these sacraments.
  • Coordination of Sacramental Preparation for Students attending St. Raymond School
  • Prepare young Catechumens and Candidates for Reception into the Catholic Church (through the Easter Sacraments). Preparation may include Days of Retreat and Formation for Parents.
  • Prepare Catholic students for Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation through weekly classes (schedules coordinated with classroom teachers and the principal)
  • In conjunction with the Pastor, schedule two Penance Service each year for Catholic Students in St. Raymond School and assist in Class Retreats as scheduled.

  • Coordination of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for Pre-Kindergarden and Kindergarden.
  • Design, set up and maintain the Good Shepherd
  • Main Catechist for Pre-K & K school children using Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program
  • Attend ongoing CGS Training Sessions for the three Levels (90 hours per level) plus 6 observation visits to other atrium sites for each level.
  • Recriut assistants to assist catechist during each weekly session.
  • Recruit volunteers to present the Gospel message
  • Conduct information/training sessions for volunteers
  • Produce quarterly schedules
  • Order and distribute instruction pages & Sunday readings
  • Produce quarterly schedules
  • Coordination of Children's Liturgy of the Word during Sunday Mass



  • Stays informed of new models for parish religious education and safe environment policies.
  • Implements Archdiocesan policies and procedures per the directives from the Office for Catechetical Formation.
  • Participates in Archdiocesan sponsored events such as Catechetical Convocation, Fall and Spring Professional Days and Retreats.
  • Attends Directors and Coordinators of Religious Education County meetings sponsored by the Office of Catechetical Formation.
  • Maintains membership in Archdiocesan Association of Parish Directors, Coordinators, Administrators of Religious Education (PDCARE).

  • Maintain appropriate contact with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catechetical Formation and ensure the program adheres to Diocesan Guidelines. The Pastoral Associate will attend meetings as requested by the Diocese and the Martin de Porres Foundation.
  • In conjunction with the Pastor and Business Manager, coordinate the relationship with the Martin de Porres Foundation and complete annual grant and quarterly reimbursements
