POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Pediatrician

LOCATION: 1575 Blue Hill Avenue

REPORTS TO: Medical Director

TYPE: Full Time/Part Time

SALARY: Negotiable


Summary:

The pediatrician provides primary care and associated services to pediatric patients of MCHC with option to include other facilities as determined by MCHC. This position includes provision of leadership and consultation to MCHC leadership regarding clinical best practices and logistical considerations related to pediatric clinical practice. These functions require the maintenance of effective interdisciplinary relationships based on mutual respect and a shared collective purpose. In addition, the pediatrician must be committed to the values of coordination, collaboration, and cooperation for the benefit of the community of Mattapan.

The scope of responsibilities associated with this position include both internal (intra-organizational) and external (community) roles. The pediatrician will engage in strategic activities to maximize MCHC’s leadership role by developing and implementing programs that seek to maximize health outcomes of the Mattapan community.


Responsibilities


80% Direct Services: Provide direct ambulatory medical services to MCHC pediatric patients from birth to age 21 years. Serve as a consultant for other MCHC providers. Advise the Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer in the development of pediatric programs, improvement of services, and troubleshooting of concerns related to the delivery of pediatric care within MCHC.


Specific expectations for the provision of pediatric clinical care:

  • Perform and document medical histories and exams, including developmental screening and routine preventive care measures;
  • Maintain current, accurate and appropriately detailed medical records for each patient;
  • Prescribe and/or dispense medications to patients, including Schedule II-V substances, as needed;
  • Assess patients’ immunization statuses and determine appropriate immunization schedules per CDC guidelines;
  • Order diagnostic tests, interpret results, and determine plans in partnership with patients and/or their caregivers;
  • Refer to specialists and other interdisciplinary team members as needed;
  • Coordinate care among and between internal/external team members;
  • Adhere to medico-legal standards of care for pediatric practice at all times;
  • Maintain competence in all diagnostic and/or surgical procedures qualified to perform per scope of practice;
  • Participate in clinical QI/QA initiatives relating to the care of pediatric patients at MCHC;
  • Perform ongoing, self-directed continuing medical education with a focus on health promotion and preventive care services.

20% Clinical Administration: Direct the clinical management of pediatric patients seen in the medical clinic. Guide and improve pediatric clinical services involving other staff members, including but not limited to: designing written clinical protocols as well as developing and implementing preventative health best practices.

  • Attend departmental and provider meetings, including committee meetings related to the care of pediatric patients at MCHC;
  • Participate in the MCHC peer review process;
  • Assist in the development of internal pediatric practice guidelines, clinical protocols, and/or educational programs.
  • Participate in other initiatives as directed by the Medical Director or Chief Medical Officer.
Requirements:

Doctorate in medicine;

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics;

At least 3 years of experience providing direct patient care to a diverse pediatric population;

Active Massachusetts medical license;

Active DEA license;

Active Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration;

Current Basic Life Support and CPR certification;

Adherence to continuing medical education requirements per the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the American Board of Pediatrics.
