JOB SUMMARY:

Under routine supervision, the NUOP Retention and Resilience Coach provides students with socio/economic, personal, mental, financial and career counseling support that will enable them to successfully complete a four-year degree.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


● Assist NUOP students with year-to-year class transitions by conducting "Status check" meetings with NUOP students in which students undergo holistic wellness
assessments to identify and address areas of concern that potentially threaten the focus and prioritization of the students' academics.
● Create a plan of action with students to strategically manage any challenges that may arise; using the 5 C's method to help students' resiliency
● Provide counseling for students throughout the year who may have social, financial, career, and personal wellness needs and make outside referrals as necessary (especially for students who are at or lower than a 2.0 GPA; meet on a weekly basis);
● Coordinate with Academic Counselor and Assistant Director to monitor academic progress, set weekly study hours, and schedule additional office hours with professors as needed during the academic year;
● Monitor the holistic wellness of students, coordinate and monitor weekly plans of action, and outsource for additional mental health counseling and/or additional wellness services as needed;
● Serve as liaison for NUOP students with other university departments on campus and intervene, as appropriate, on behalf of the students in resolving problems and
concerns; offices include Intercultural Engagement Center, ODEI, Counseling Services, and Academic Success Center.
● Serve as a representative of NUOP in triage meetings for student conduct issues; NUOP RETENTION & RESILIENCE COACH meet with Dean of students on a tri weekly basis to address areas of concerns for NUOP students.
● Assess the financial needs of NUOP students as they pertain to personal essential, and emergency needs; work with the Director and Financial Aid to assess financial statuses and needs.
● Maintains all student financial documents in a confidential manner.
● Assist the NUOP Program Director in preparing state and university reports;
● Assist in the coordination of active/passive programming and implementation of program assessments
● Work flexible/evening hours to be determined;
● Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
● Perform other duties as assigned.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

% of Time


60% Provide weekly and biweekly status check meetings assessing personal, financial, social, and career concerns, monitors academic performance, creates "plan of action", makes outside referrals, for high level at -risk students, and
documents discussions in files;


15% Check student tutoring hours, mental health counseling, campus engagement, office and study hours, updates to curriculum cards, prepares tutorial and counseling report for NYS report, and prepares grade update report;


15% Monitors mid-term grade reports, assists students with grade change forms, and provides pre-advisement; maintain communication with faculty to ensure wraparound service is available to students in relation to academic progress.


10% Coordinates transition assessments for the start of each academic year to identify student transition level and create "plan of action" for the coming semesters that include; individual mental health counseling, internship and career development, functional community building, and social, personal, and professional development. Transports students to meetings/conferences/activities provided by the NUOP program. Participates in recruitment activities and travels to recruitment sites.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


1. Ability to provide program students with holistic personal, social, financial, and career counseling;
2. Ability to work with a diverse student population; NUOP RETENTION & RESILIENCE COACH
3. Knowledge of mental health issues and intervention techniques for at-risk students; methodological tools
4. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
5. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
6. Ability to read and comprehend various forms, documentation, files and information in the department.
7. Utilize Microsoft Office for word processing, database and spreadsheet management, presentations and other software as applicable;
8. Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone;
9. Perform basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to be able to verify accuracy of work;
10. Ability to work non-traditional business hours as needed for recruitment and summer program;
11. Sufficient knowledge and ability to represent NUOP in recruitment activities;
12. Sufficient knowledge of financial aid documents, deadlines, and procedures.


ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:


The functions of the position are usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching,
lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, and calculator, involve
extensive wrist and hand movements. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS


1. Master's Degree with 1 - 2 years of experience with counseling, coaching, and/or mentoring at the university-level is required;
2. Candidate must be a self-starter, possess a thorough understanding of academic support theory and best practices, have proven leadership skills, exhibit excellent
verbal and oral communication skills, have an understanding of the needs of a diverse college student population, and possess a commitment to multicultural education;
3. Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized and able to manage administrative tasks including conducting both formal and informal assessments throughout the year;
4. Excellent judgment and respect for confidentiality;
5. A valid New York State driver's license is required that satisfies both University and insurance company underwriting rules and regulations for driving a motor
vehicle.
