VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER

Department: Fire & EMS

Job Classification: Volunteer


GENERAL PURPOSE

  • Under general guidance and direction of the Director of Fire & EMS or his/her designee is responsible to report to the fire station to mitigate fire emergencies (i.e. Fires, Alarms, Rescues, Car Accidents, EMS assists, Natural Disasters etc.).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Fights fires by placing, connecting, and advancing hoses; operates equipment such as firefighting apparatus, nozzles, ladders, hydrants, extinguishers, generators, etc; ventilates structures; enters structures in a cautious and safe manner; participates in post-emergency salvage operations and cleanup.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment and vehicles; stocks supplies; prepares and submits reports.
  • Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player.
  • Applicants may be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug testing.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must become Utah State certified Firefighter 1 and 2, and Wildland Red Card within the first year of appointment.
  • Must pass the city required physical.
  • Must have a valid Utah State driver's license.
  • Must pass the department physical fitness test annually.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in highly stressful situations.
  • Must reside in the Spanish Fork City Fire & EMS response district.
