Job Summary

Castalia Systems is seeking a Principal Solutions Architect in the Dulles, VA area.

Our team is supporting a U.S. Government customer on a large mission-critical development and sustainment program to design, build, deliver, and operate a network operations environment; including introducing new cyber capabilities to address emerging threats. Castalia is seeking a Principal Solutions Architect to support the design, development, and deployment of advanced cybersecurity capabilities.

Roles and Responsibilities

A qualified candidate will perform the following duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing SAFe Agile best practices and the intersection of SAFe practices with data management and governance.
  • Applying leading-edge principles, theories, and concepts, and contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.
  • Working on unusually complex problems and providing highly innovative solutions.
  • Operating with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decision, and mentoring or supervising employees in both firm and technical competencies.
  • Working with product and engineering teams to understand the tradeoffs of potential solutions and how they fit into product roadmaps.
  • Planning, developing, and implementing large-scale projects from conception to completion.
  • Developing and architecting the lifecycle of projects working on different technologies and platforms.
  • Translating business requirements/objectives into technical applications and solutions.
  • Exercising creative, innovative, and critical thinking to troubleshoot systems and advance project initiatives.
  • Delivering innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs/requirements.
  • Providing consultation to product/engineering teams and stakeholders on business processes and existing system functionality that ensures technical and business aspects of solutions are aligned to the proposed value.
  • Utilizing industry best practices for root cause analysis of Enterprise architecture, design, or configuration failures related to cybersecurity.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline is required. [Twelve (12) years of experience (for a total of twenty-two (22) or more years) may be substituted for a degree.]
  • Advanced degree (Master’s) is desired.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of directly relevant software development experience.
  • 6+ years’ experience with Agile software development programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean-Agile principles, metrics, and technology and/or experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Lean Thinking, Lean Six Sigma.
  • Ability to understand complex data models.
  • Strong background in AWS, database, networking, and software development solutions.
  • Strong background in multi-tiered architecture using Microservices.
  • Strong background in developing Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions.
  • Strong ability to be creative, ability to be innovative, and possess advanced decision-making skills.
  • Strong knowledge of technology trends and champions new ideas and product and process improvements.
  • Experience with multiple Agile tools, including JIRA and Confluence.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience developing, delivering, upgrading, and maintaining a web-based operational system that provides a real-time malware analysis capability.
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or similar framework
  • Experience with DevOps, DevSecOps, Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) concepts
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, Cloudbees, etc.
  • Containerized applications/microservices architectures
  • Knowledge of AWS and/or Azure cloud architectures and implementations
  • Technical understanding of cybersecurity attack techniques
  • Experience working on projects that implement systems into production.
  • Experience in developing malware analysis systems
  • Developing metrics to measure system performance using Grafana

Desired Certifications:

  • Agile software development methodology certification (e.g. SCRUM Master) is highly desired.
  • AWS Associate Architect certification.
