The Role: What You’ll Do

As the ESL Coordinator & Teacher at Veritas Prep Middle School, you will have a dual role in coordinating ESL services and teaching ESL classes. In your capacity as the ESL Coordinator, you will collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to identify students in need of ESL services, develop individualized learning plans, and provide support and resources to classroom teachers to meet the needs of English language learners. As the ESL Teacher, you will provide direct instruction to ESL students, focusing on developing their English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify students in need of ESL services and conduct assessments to determine their English language proficiency levels
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and strategies to support English language learners in mainstream classrooms
  • Design and deliver effective, standards-based ESL instruction that aligns with student learning goals and language development needs
  • Provide differentiated instruction and support to students, including small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring
  • Monitor and assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies as needed
  • Utilize technology and other instructional resources to enhance language learning experiences
  • Plan and facilitate parent workshops and engagement opportunities to support the home-school connection and provide resources for parents of English language learners
  • Collaborate with other ESL teachers and attend professional development sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills in ESL instruction and best practices
  • Coordinate and maintain accurate documentation of ESL services and student progress
  • Participate in department meetings, school-wide initiatives, and professional learning communities
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide strategies to support English language learners and promote language acquisition across all subject areas
  • Conduct ongoing research and stay updated on best practices and trends in ESL instruction

Requirements

What You’ll Need

  • Passion for working with English language learners and a deep understanding of their unique needs and challenges
  • Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, ESL, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Teaching certification or licensure in ESL/TESOL
  • At least 2 years of experience teaching ESL, preferably in a middle school setting
  • Strong knowledge of ESL instructional strategies and best practices
  • Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Knowledge of English language proficiency assessments and ability to administer and interpret assessment results
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and provide targeted support to students with diverse language backgrounds and proficiency levels
  • Proficiency in Spanish or another second language is a plus
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to learn and grow as an educator
  • Valid work authorization in the United States
