Position Overview:

Responsible for handling a high level of responsibility and professional development, working directly with architects, engineers, contractors, owners, and developers on a wide range of projects, including healthcare, life science, college/university, multifamily residential, hospitality, commercial, and transportation facilities.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Field Surveys: Conduct thorough field surveys of existing buildings to assess code compliance and safety.
  • Technical Reports: Prepare detailed technical field reports, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Code Research: Perform in-depth code research to stay updated on the latest regulations and requirements.
  • Architectural Plan Reviews: Evaluate architectural plans for compliance with applicable building codes.
  • Performance-Based Design: Provide performance-based design solutions, including fire modeling, egress modeling, and structural fire resistance analyses.
  • QA/QC Process: Adhere to the firm's quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) process to maintain high standards of work.
  • Technical Oversight: Supervise the technical team and provide technical guidance and oversight.
  • Project Planning: Prepare and monitor project plans, schedule resources, communicate budgets, and manage multiple project deadlines with varying priorities.
  • Invoicing and Accounts: Manage data for invoicing and accounts receivable, resolving issues and initiating corrective actions when necessary.
  • Performance Metrics: Ensure production, productivity, quality, and client service meet the firm's standards for client satisfaction.

General Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Manage multiple project deadlines with varying priorities, ensuring projects are completed accurately and on time.
  • Client Liaison: Act as the liaison between clients, the AKF project team, and the Partner in Charge to ensure project goals and objectives are met.
  • RFPs and Proposals: Assist in responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and proposal writing to secure new projects.
  • Client Engagement: Participate in client presentations and represent the company in a professional manner in interactions with clients and other professionals.
  • Financial Objectives: Understand and meet the firm’s project financial objectives by forecasting current and future requirements.
  • Training and Mentorship: Assist in training and mentoring other team members, contributing to their professional growth.
  • Technical Committee: Participate in the firm's Technical Committee as requested to contribute to the development of best practices and expertise within the organization.
  • Core Values and Reputation: Understand and demonstrate the firm's core values. Enhance the firm's reputation by taking ownership of client requests and delivering high-quality work.
  • Professional Representation: Represent the company professionally when interacting with owners, architects, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated through educational opportunities, professional publications, and technical organizations. Obtain certifications in your area of expertise and actively participate in the firm's Technical Committee as requested.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the firm.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction or related field.
    1. 7+ years of prior Code Consulting experience
    2. Prior experience in fire protection engineering and life safety/code consulting.
    3. Comprehensive understanding of the architectural, engineering, and construction industry, including knowledge of code-compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Technical Background: A solid technical background in building construction and fire safety. Experience with healthcare projects and/or fire modeling a plus.
  • Codes and Standards: Previous experience with ICC codes and NFPA standards.
  • Certifications: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) or Professional Engineering (PE) license is a plus.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit a plus.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze and solve technical challenges.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented for accurate design and calculations.
  • Time Management: Effective time management to meet project deadlines.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills, and ability to mentor others
  • Additional Skills: Eagerness to learn, adapt, and contribute to a dynamic team.
