About the Role:

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is expected to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment with highly qualified professionals. As such, he/she drives customer project and product development program execution needs, while carrying out detailed engineering activities in their specific field of expertise. Work with peers, management, and other departments to advance the business mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Support project and product development in timely and efficient execution of internal development programs and client projects. Participate in product and project design reviews and offer best-practice advice in area of expertise based upon experience.
  • Design mechanical components, modules, and systems for various assigned projects with a focus on meeting all performance requirements while designing for manufacturability (DFM), design to cost (DTC), and ensuring quality by performing analysis and tolerance stacking.
  • Develop detailed 3-D Finite Element models of OPT’s products, sub-systems and components using the commercial software ANSYS, and carry out analyses to verify their fitness-for-purpose based on the appropriate international engineering standards.
  • Integrate with the OPT engineering team and provide technical guidance to junior members. Provide technical advice to other engineering disciplines and operations on product and project issues.
  • Familiar with Quality Management System – ECR/ECO process and drawing reviews.
  • Review existing OPT products and solutions with a view to increasing efficiency and reducing costs. Suggest new products and solutions and support Program Management in producing a consistent development program.
  • Provide technical support to Sales and Business Development efforts. Engage in discussions with prospective clients as a subject matter expert.

Requirements:

  • An accredited degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (BS required, MS preferred)
  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on engineering design, analysis, and operational experience (10+ preferred) (undersea/offshore experience desired)
  • Significant experience of FEA using ANSYS in a dynamic environment
  • Design experience of electro-mechanical power systems, large, welded structures, machine-design, fatigue assessment, corrosion prevention.
  • Experience of designing systems for the marine environment (preferred)
  • Demonstrated track record of challenging status-quo and continuously seeking improvement in engineering execution
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership, accountability, and ownership
  • Software Capability- ANSYS (required); SolidWorks (preferred) or PTC Creo; MS Office
