Job DescriptionJob Description

Skagit PUD is seeking an Engineering Technician I - Customer Service to provide front-line customer service related to engineering topics to members of the public seeking utility services and changes. This position is the primary contact for water availability inquires, applications for new water services, and temporary fire hydrant meters.

Essential Duties

Engineering Customer Service: Provide direct service to the public; provide verbal and written technical replies to inquiries from the public, consultants, developers and staff; Process applications for new water service and temporary fire hydrant meters; process water service requests and letters of water availability.

Engineering Support: Administrative support for developer projects by drafting forms, documents, assisting with site inspections, sample collections and document management; file maintenance including land records, meter sales, agreements, etc.; provide backup to the Locating Tech;

Cross-Connection Control Program Support: Support Cross-Connection program through data entry, correspondence administration, design review and site inspections

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of civil construction and utility service applicable to a large complex water utility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics.
  • Basic ability to read, understand and interpret plans, drawings, maps, and other technical material applicable to the work.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously in a busy environment.
  • Ability to use GIS software is desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other departments, employees, and outside entities. Must be able to form effective and respectful working relationships.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is mandatory.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing. The ability to speak and read Spanish is a plus.
  • Demonstrates a competent level of proficiency in using a variety of software, hardware and technology-based tools as determined to be required for the job.

Compensation

The full 2024 salary range for this position is $32.64-$47.00 per hour. However, starting salary typically begins in the bottom quartile ($32.64-$36.23) per the PUD's salary guidelines, which allows for growth beyond the top of the market due to performance and longevity. Starting salary will be dependent upon previous experience and qualifications.

Benefits Package

The PUD offers a complete benefits package including medical/dental/vision (no cost to employee/ dependents), life, accident and disability coverage, PERS pension, deferred compensation, generous paid time off, holidays, and more. Benefits are equivalent to over 60% in additional compensation.
