Compensation & Benefits:

Job Responsibilities:

They may use hand tools and power equipment to perform a variety of duties, including:

  • Lawn care: Mow, edge, trim, and water lawns, fields, and other turf.
  • Plant care: Prepare soil, plant flowers, shrubs, bushes, and trees, and prune trees when needed.
  • Weeding: Hoe and pull weeds.
  • Fertilizing: Apply fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides as directed.
  • Mulching: Rake and mulch leaves.
  • Outdoor features: Install and maintain gardens, fences, gates, retaining walls, rock gardens, outdoor lighting, and other design features.
  • Snow removal: Shovel sidewalks, steps, and doorways, and operate a snowblower or snowplow to clear roads, driveways, and parking lots.
  • Cleanup: Pick-up and remove trash, paper, trimmings, and debris from assigned areas, such as parking lots, playgrounds, and athletic fields. Empty waste receptacles and report unsafe conditions or the need for repairs.

Groundskeepers may also need to keep records and files, respond to requests, and work well independently and as part of a team. They should be physically fit to operate a variety of equipment, including weed eaters, blowers, hedge clippers, chainsaws, shovels, and rakes. They may also need to be able to lift and move up to 150 pounds of force occasionally, up to 75 pounds frequently, and up to 25 pounds constantly.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity with sprinkler systems and other landscaping equipment.
  • Knowledge of gardening techniques.
  • Knowledge of gardening products such as fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Essential Job Functions

  • Fair Housing Training - Provided during orientation.
  • Operating vehicle and driver's license required according to community needs.
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform tasks described above without seeking outside contractor assistance.
  • Demonstrate ability to contribute to and foster a team approach to serving residents and maintaining a successful community.
  • Comply with expectations as demonstrated in the employee handbook.
