We do this by helping individuals flourish regardless of income, ability, or age. Serving residents in Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski and Starke Counties.


FUNCTION:


Reporting to the Homeless Resources Supervisor, the IERA Specialist plays a key roll in ensuring that qualified individuals receive the necessary support to cover past due and on going monthly rent and utility payments with the Indiana Rental Assistance Program. The IERA Specialist is responsible for assessing and determining the eligibility of Indiana renters seeking assistance through the IERA program.


MAJOR DUTIES:
Eligibility Assessment:
- Conduct thorough assessments to determine the eligibility of applicants for the IERA program
- Review and verify documentation provided by applicants to ensure compliance with program guidelines
Application Assistance:
- Assist applicants in completing required forms and submitting necessary documentation
- provide clear and concise information about program requirements and documentation need for eligibility
- Assist with conducting group housing counseling workshops
Interviews and Communication:
- Conduct interviews with applicants to gather additional information and clarify any discrepancies
- Communicate effectively with applicants, addressing inquiries and providing updates on the status of their applications.
Documentation and Recordkeeping
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all applicant interactions and eligibility determinations
- Ensure that all documentation meets the standards of IERA program
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the Homeless Resources Supervisor and other team members to streamline the eligibility determination process
- Work closely with community organizations, social workers, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth coordination
Training and Education
- Stay informed about program guidelines, changes, and updates
- provide training and support to applicants, community partners, and internal staff regarding eligibility criteria and application process
Compliance:
- Ensure strict adherence to program guidelines and regulations
- stay informed about federal, state, and local housing policies and ensure that eligibility determination align with these regulations


Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field preferred
- Experience in eligibility determinations for social service programs
- knowledge of housing policies and assistance programs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- detail oriented with excellent organizational abilities
- ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast paced environment
