Position Summary
The Sr. Electrical Estimator will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and supervising the assigned team in developing and preparing detailed cost estimates from beginning to end. Responsible for maintaining existing accounts, and ensuring deadlines are met for budgeting and bidding electrical projects. Embrace an estimating technique that includes the ability to analyze customer needs, communicate & price appropriate solutions, and facilitate sales to closure.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen vendor and customer relationships.
- Create bid proposals for sales opportunities assigned
- Experience and ability to perform design-build and plan & spec commercial/light industrial electrical estimating.
- Assign estimating work to subordinates. Advise and provide technical support as needed.
- Create estimates from beginning to end as necessary to meet department goals
- Review and evaluate project plans and specifications, bid documents, and other relevant project documents to determine scope of work and profitability for the company.
- Identify any inconsistent issues, conflicts, and other opportunities in the bid documents.
- Identify strategies to create bid advantages.
- Assist with expansion strategies to further retain and penetrate existing accounts.
- Assist with achieving sales plan and account retention targets.
- Ensure historical data is documented and archived on each quoted project.
- Assist with coaching, training, etc.
- Attend weekly estimating meetings to discuss bid status and present/solve problems.
- Assist with optimizing Estimating Systems including database maintenance, assembly creation, and material/labor price verifications.
- Know company Estimating Processes and ensure they are followed.
- Attend project meetings as needed to assist in analyzing/solving project issues.
- Responsible for ensuring job walks are attended to observe field conditions that may affect the construction, may impact the prospective bid, and/or may impact the pre-construction design and build.
- Deal directly with General Contractor, Vendor and/or Customer as a company representative regarding the estimate.
- Request material and equipment quotes from vendors and equipment suppliers.
- Understand the National Electric Code in order to review drawings for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure information is entered into the estimating system accurately.
- Ensure that estimates are complete, well-organized, and ready for review before the given deadline.
- Communicate with customers to define the project scope, address deficiencies, negotiate pricing and build relationships.
- Prepares and presents completed estimating packages to company executives and senior management.
- Follow up on all bid projects and accurately forecast future awards/probabilities.
- Properly transfer awarded projects to operations team and perform buyouts when necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of tasks and projects, and smooth operation of department.
- Able to multi-task and work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Communicate effectively with office personnel, engineers, architects, general contractors, customers, and team members. Is courteous and cordial to customers.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Mentors and develops field team members while effectively managing the overall team
- May act as a liaison for company and employee communication
- Monitors and evaluates the performance of all assigned personnel, recommending and implementing personnel actions, such as promotions and dismissals
- Attends periodic meetings with staff and management as necessary
- Interviews, selects, trains, assigns, monitors, and reviews the activities of all assigned personnel
- Coaches, mentors, motivates and supervises team members and contractors, and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
- Monitors, ensures and oversees work quality
- Handles employee grievances and emergencies; maintains harmonious employee relations. Counsels and coaches’ employees, develops performance appraisals, conducts reviews and provides resources to assist employees to improve and maximize performance

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- 4-yr engineering degree (or equivalent combination of technical training and practical experience)
- 10+ years’ experience in electrical construction estimating
- 2+ years’ experience in a senior electrical estimator position
- 2+ years design build experience (preferred)
- Must have knowledge of the NEC
- Some electrical installation field experience preferred
- Thorough knowledge of corporate objectives, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts
- Outstanding technical and analytical skill

- Excellent scheduling and time management skills
- Ability to motivate and create cohesive work teams
- Strong MS Office skills
- Advanced knowledge of construction estimating software programs & Bluebeam

- Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules as needed including overtime and weekends
