GENERAL SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides outpatient nursing care for all patients at Nisqually Health Center. The RN is responsible for providing professional nursing health care for the community. The RN provides education, case management, coaching and process improvement and other efforts related to addressing health disparities. The RN is part of a team for integrated care that combines primary care, public health, dental, behavioral health and opiate use disorder.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform. •Provide nursing care for patients in multiple settings including prepare patients for examinations, screen patients for appropriate information, and instruct patients in collection of samples, specimens, and tests; provide IV therapies.
•Assess needs of Nisqually population and collaborate with health care providers to develop and implement organization-wide public health services
•Assist providers with clinical procedures.
•Provide care to patients throughout the lifespan; newborn through elder care.
•Assist in the development of clinical pathways/standards and standing orders for clinic patient care.
•Provide medical case management, health services, and education.
•Coordinate and assist in standardizing patient education materials that incorporate appropriate lifestyle and cultural considerations for individual and group education working closely with clinical director and other health care team members.
•Provide accurate and timely documentation of all patient visits and encounters maintain advanced E.H.R. knowledge and practices required to successfully execute duties.
•Support Quality Assurance performance improvement work and initiatives; utilize quality improvement principles such as value stream mapping, root cause analysis, just-in-time production and PDSA cycles.
•Facilitate improvement within healthcare system through use of coaching and rapid improvement events and daily improvement methodologies; help foster culture of continuous improvement.
•Assistant in grants and reports as requested; provide reports, data, and information as required.
•Remain knowledgeable of current trends in care, management process and quality improvement, medications, and other aspects of health care.
•Responsible for ensuring accurate medical and health information is entered into the electronic health record.
•Ensure protestation of the privacy and security of protected health information as required by tribal, state, and federal law.
•Participate in in activities such as program evaluation, community dinners, and other related activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience
  • Associates' Degree in nursing with a minimum of 5 years' patient care experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse preferred. Tribal or public health experience preferred.
  • Current valid Washington State nursing license without restriction OR ability to obtain a Washington State license prior to hire date. License must remain active and without restriction at all times to maintain employment.
  • Current valid Washington state driver's license and ability to be insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 3 months of hire.

This position does not supervise.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and PHI laws, rules, and regulations related to the security and confidentiality of data.
  • Knowledge of electronic health records, systems, and related applications.

  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, the community, staff, and external agencies.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong nursing assessment skills and well-developed communication skills in person and on the phone.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and exercise tact and good judgment in all contacts.
