Position Overview

This position provides first aid response, emergency first aid, and follow up care for acute and ongoing occupational injuries or illnesses. Oversee and coordinate medical care of injured workers. Proactively serve as liaison between injured workers, medical provider, and claims adjuster to promote early return to work. The Night Health and Safety Specialist will review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent occupational disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, biological, or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws, regulations, or corporate safety policies governing the health and safety of employees.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency first response/triage care, first aid treatment, and over-the-counter medications for employees as needed.
  • Actively promote safety throughout the facility by identifying, mitigating, or suspending activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.
  • Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • File First Report of Injury (FROI), document worker progress, and work closely with claims adjuster and medical providers to properly manage workers compensation claim.
  • Record vital signs and medical information. Maintain accurate workers compensation claim files and/or first aid files for injured workers.
  • Evaluate injured workers and determine fitness for duty to determine whether medical care beyond first aid is required and refer to the proper medical professional.
  • Coordinate claim management activities with the Workers Compensation Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment for occupational illnesses or injuries.
  • Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
  • Interact with employees in an appropriate manner.
  • Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
  • Communicate via email and prepare reports.
  • Review and analyze data and information concerning workers compensation.
  • Plan, prioritize and monitor safety throughout the facilities.
  • Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibility

No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.


Safety

Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment; report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly. Follow all job-specific safety requirements including but not limited to wearing gloves, proper disposal of used medical supplies.
