The Intern, Communications supports Elevate’s Communications Team with copyediting and writing content, while gaining administration skills. The Intern is familiar with Office Suite – Microsoft, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, and be familiar with mainstream social media channel. The intern is detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products. Interest in public and media relations is a plus. A successful candidate has strong analytical skills, a willingness to be a flexible team player and excellent communication skills.

The Intern for Communications reports directly to the Director of Strategic Communications. This position is based in Chicago and is open to a hybrid role.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner with the Communications teams and other program managers and colleagues.
  • Support the Director of Strategic Communications and the Communications Team with copywriting, editing and developing organizational processes.
  • Communicates daily with team members on project status and deliverables.
  • Support with the Communications team editorial calendars, and the monthly social media strategic planning.
  • Help copyedit and support in content development.
  • Supports with scheduling team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills
  • Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program is preferred but relevant lived experience is also eligible
  • Must submit writing samples that exemplify their writing style and skills
  • Ability to self-manage tasks and deadlines, sometimes with competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and support the team as needed
  • A demonstrated attention to detail
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational and coordination skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required
  • Experience in Meltwater or other Media and Public Relations software is a plus, but not required

Terms of Service

Internships at Elevate are paid positions for current college or graduate students or recent college graduates. The usual time commitment is for ten weeks, 20-30 hours/week but there is some flexibility with this internship. The Communications Intern is paid $20/hour.

If interns are handling confidential data, they will be asked to comply with security policies, as required. In addition, all policy interns are asked to comply with a confidentiality and nondisclosure agreement.
