Our kit and component manufacturing sites are situated across the US (Middleton, Petaluma, and  Novato) and Europe (Berlin and Lystrup) and are underpinned by either ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 compliance. These capabilities support a wide portfolio of off-the-shelf components and kits critical to NGS workflows including magnetic beads, oligos, enzymes, and library prep kits. Additionally, our primary manufacturing capabilities enable customization and bulk (OEM) manufacture of reagents such as key NGS enzymes for high volume applications.

Our ISO 9001 accredited NGS services such as genotyping by sequencing (GBS) and Flex-Seq targeted GBS feature fast turnaround times, cost-effective pricing, and expert consultation. Our services are accessed through our laboratory sites in Berlin (DE), Gainesville (US) and Middleton (US). Importantly, our NGS services are supported by DNA extraction and purification chemistries developed in house as well as bioinformatics support to offer convenient, all-inclusive.

Job Description

As a subject-matter expert on the Lab Services team, the Sequencing and Probe Scientist consolidates libraries prepared by the technical team and arranges for their sequencing (by third parties or in-house). In addition, the Scientist is responsible for the synthesis and validation of probe panels which support specific lab services technical workflows. This skilled and knowledgeable team member also serves as a consultant on technical matters as they arise on projects within the lab.

  • Synthesize and perform quality control processes on new probe panels, including validation of their effectiveness. 

  • Liaise with members of the Lab Services team, using relevant laboratory information management system (LIMS) and supporting software to anticipate sequencing requirements from various technical workflows. 

  • Effectively prioritize projects and organize the storage of libraries based on previously provided deadlines and related criteria.  

  • Prepare pools, including consolidation of prepared libraries and verification of pool quality, and ship to third-party vendors for sequencing. 

  • Communicate with Bioinformatics to ensure quality control standards are met for designated projects and provide Bioinformatics with information pertinent to successful computational analysis. 

  • Collaborate with Bioinformatics and direct manager to improve quality of library preparations, based on feedback from sequencing analysis. 

  • Analyze data sets and create reports suitable for presentation to management/leadership. 

  • Update LIMS and other IT infrastructure to ensure up-to-date project information. 

  • When required, train other technicians on probe synthesis, QC and validation, and pool organization for sequencing.

  • As requested, consult with lab technicians on troubleshooting and general analytical and scientific matters 

  • As required, successfully determine the type of materials required for sequencing needs and interact with third-party providers to purchase these materials.  

  • As required, communicate with third-party vendors to notify them of logistical and operational information, such as expected run days, shipment days, and prioritization of pools. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant life sciences field (e.g. molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry) is required.  
  • 2-3 years of direct lab experience/working the bench is required.  
  • Proven knowledge and experience performing next generation sequencing (NGS) techniques within a lab setting, either commercial or academic 
  • Prior experience working with LIMS. 
  • Proven experience in high throughout labs, preferably in NGS is strongly preferred. 
  • Proven technical skills with molecular biology techniques (e.g. pipetting, performing QC workflows, NGS library pooling) is preferred.
  • Technical ability to read and interpret scientific data.
