Job DescriptionJob Description

At CXI Trucking in Melrose Park, we are growing and currently looking to hire a full time Apprentice Diesel Maintenance Mechanic. This individual will learn the ins and outs of the mechanic shop, using tools and machines under the instruction of senior Mechanics and the Supervisor. This position performs any and all assignments that the Company determines suit the skills and experience of the individual and trains to preventative maintenance responsibilities.

Diesel Mechanic Apprentice job duties:

  • Troubleshooting maintenance and repair on trucks.
  • Diagnose any mechanical, electrical or other breakdown or failure to a motor truck or related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of the component parts and systems on the truck or truck tractor; or the component parts and systems of the trailer.
  • Apply any knowledge of DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA rules and regulations as needed.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standard.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Performs minor repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services.
  • Completes required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Assists in the repair and adjustment of equipment.
  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles.
  • Assists senior mechanics in the completion of project work.
  • Assists with service calls for breakdowns.
  • Performs other maintenance related work as required.
  • Maintains a positive interface with all Company employees.

Desired Skills and Qualities:

  • Technical Training/Certification or Degree a plus.
  • Any knowledge of Mechanical Electrical systems a plus.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to set goals and accomplish them.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation in order to get back and forth from the CXI Shop to CXI Main Terminal (few blocks away).

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Be able to learn and perform preventable Maintenance and repairs.
  • Use computers for web based parts and information searches as needed.
  • Must be physically able to lift and work with no restrictions.
  • Must possess and or be willing to obtain the necessary tools for perform preventative maintenance on trucks.
  • Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the work day and be able to adapt to seasonal conditions in the shop.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $21 to $25 per hour
  • Weekly Pay, with Direct Deposit
  • Medical, Vision, Dental after 90 days
  • 1 week of Vacation after 1 year
  • 401k enrollment after 1 year
