Department: Operations


Purpose of position: Under limited supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, trailers, and other power-driven equipment; performs related work as assigned.

Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation).

  • Inspect locate and determine the extent of necessary overhaul or repair and perform general overhaul and repairs on automobiles, trucks, and related equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and state inspections.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults.
  • Respond to roadside repairs and service calls.
  • Fabricate or repair with all types of welding equipment.
  • Perform computer data scans on vehicles.
  • Install new and used equipment and parts.
  • Perform minor body repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance work.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment to aid in diagnostics; pick up and deliver vehicles and parts.
  • Clean and maintain the garage area and equipment.
  • Inventory, order, and control tools, supplies and material for garage.
  • Maintain records on all maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is required to be able to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Knowledge of basic math and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of various mechanical and electrical systems of gasoline & diesel engines.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform different methods and techniques of welding and fabrication.
  • Ability to estimate time and materials needed for work.
  • Ability to operate various hand and power-driven shop tools.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the relevant manager.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly and ability to lift 150 lbs., with assistance, periodically.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 year’s experience in vehicle maintenance repairs, including medium/heavy-duty diesel engines.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Work is performed primarily in a shop environment; occasional field environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces; may be required to work extended hours including evening and weekends.

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a mechanic shop environment; walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods; frequent stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist; push, pull, lift, or carry moderate to substantial amounts of weights; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; verbal communication to exchange information.
