Purpose of Position:


The Visitor Services Specialist inspires travelers to extend their stay in the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region and visit more than one part of our region through exceptional customer service, accurate information, and passion for the diverse recreational, cultural and culinary activities throughout the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region. This position also provides office support and is the primary receptionist for Travel Lane County’s administrative office.


Roles and Responsibilities:


Visitor Services & Community Outreach


  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors and residents in the visitor center and off-site (Outreach) locations, assisting with trip planning, accommodation searches and access to recreational activities
  • Work Outreach events on pre-scheduled weekends and evenings as needed using the company van for loading and unloading supplies and driving to outreach locations within Lane County
  • Set up and break down tents, tables, chairs and other outreach materials for special events


Front Office Operations & Marketing Support

  • Provide professional and courteous front desk reception, visitor services and retail sales to incoming customers
  • Maintain front desk organizational systems including payment processing, retail sales, data entry for visitors/outreach and brochure inventory management
  • Provide administrative and project support to the organization as needed
  • Assist in managing and promoting key destination and community events on the Travel Lane County website by gathering and uploading festival/event details, creating and distributing content and integrating listings into the state OTIS program and other priority calendars
  • Perform data entry and data import tasks
  • This position works as part of a team, and other tasks may be assigned as needed.

  • Passion for and knowledge of the Eugene, Cascades & Coast’s (Lane County’s) adventure, culinary and cultural offerings
  • Experience and ability to work easily and professionally in a customer service-oriented and retail environment with a variety of visitors and coworkers
  • Exceptional customer service, promptness, reliability and attention to detail
  • Aptitude of basic computer, office systems, data management, proofreading and editing skills (Microsoft Suite, POS systems, Zoom, internal communication platforms)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on writing web content, blogs and e-newsletters
  • Process-oriented, extreme attention to detail, organized and able to multi-task
  • Use of a multi-line phone system
  • Ability to interact comfortably and professionally with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to maintain a level-headed approach and make effective decisions amidst challenging circumstances
  • Valid Driver’s License, clean driving record and ability to drive a company van
  • Willing to work with limited privacy in a public workstation shared with other team members
  • Available to work regularly scheduled weekend shifts, holidays and after hour events when necessary
  • Able to set up and take down information table with brochures and other materials including tables, tents, etc
  • Able to staff information table for up to 8 hours, both indoors and outdoors
  • Able to load and deliver cases of visitor guides (up to 35 lbs.) to local businesses using the company van


Compensation/Hours:


  • This is a part-time hourly, non-exempt position
  • Benefits include sick leave as required by state law and paid parking
