Infusion Center Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:45 am to 6:15 pm, and Saturdays 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Working Schedule: Full-Time 8:00am - 4:30pm

Location: Amherst, may float between Amherst and Orchard Park

Position Summary: Coordinates and participates in a variety of supportive patient care activities to assist medical professional personnel in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the Dent clinical office. Administers medication and special nursing care techniques prescribed for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Administer IV and injection medications as per written/verbal MD order and infusion policy
  • Coordinates and participates in a variety of patient care activities in the examination and treatment of patients to include infusion of IV medications including chemotherapy and MRI imaging material
  • Prepare IV medications inclusive of chemotherapy mixtures
  • Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies, instruments and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Prepare IV medications
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after various procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety
  • Confer with patient to obtain accurate information for records, explains procedures, ally fears and elicit cooperation; ensure completion of chart information prior to examination by physician or extender
  • Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition; set up, clean and disinfect patient care areas; monitor and ensure appropriate inventory of medical supplies
  • Evaluate patient care with emphasis on patient response; monitors providers’ plan of care from patient assessments, medical record and other record information; maintains liaison with physicians and practice administration to ensure efficient and effective patient care services
  • Contribute to patient care through patient and family education, distributing resource literature and community service recommendations and referrals as needed
  • Coordinate scheduling with Secretaries. Represents the Dent by displaying a respectful and caring manner with patients and their families. Independently problem solves and utilizes resources to obtain patient information when patient is unable to communicate and to solve complicated matters. Maintains confidentiality of patient information
  • Assist with bio-hazard cleanup (i.e. restroom, waiting area, exam room) following universal precaution/kits
  • Interact calmly, respectfully and in a friendly manner with other representatives of services at the Dent
  • Refer patients to proper resources for Dent policies such as billing and or financial support
  • Comply with quality assurance, HIPAA, customer focus, infection control, safety and other policies as set forth
  • Assist in clerical duties as needed, functioning as a member of the health care team
  • Maintain competence through continuing education and in-service training
  • Other duties as assigned and requested

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Active licensed Registered Nurse in the State of New York
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • 2-4 years prior clinical and IV experience, preferably in the acute care setting
  • Ability to triage patient problems appropriately, seeking guidance as needed
  • Patient assessment skills
  • High degree of verbal communication and interpersonal skills to determine needs, provide information, instruct, and provide emotional support
  • Strong planning, problem solving, organizational, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of general office equipment including fax and copy machines, multi-line phone system, and personal computer
  • Ability to address and resolve conflict in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to be flexible
  • Preferred: Certified in IV Therapy, (RN)
  • Preferred: Infusion experience
  • Preferred: Chemotherapy experience

Working Conditions

  • Moderate physical effort, including assistance to the disabled patient in transfers to and from wheelchairs
  • Prolonged standing and walking periods with often bending, squatting, reach above shoulder level, crouching, kneeling, and push/pull
  • Regular fine hand manipulation
  • Associated health risks related to patient exposure including body fluids
  • Minimal physical effort, requires some lifting usually not in excess of 25 pounds

Travel

  • Possible travel between Dent Neurologic Institute sites

Compensation:

  • Most candidates will start within the first quartile of the pay range
  • Rates are commensurate with experience
