The Advancement Foundation, Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth supports all Catholic efforts and entities that exist within the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth. This includes 91 Parishes, and 19 schools. The Diocese stretches from Quanah, Texas just northwest of Wichita Falls in the West and extends to Penelope, Texas in the Southeast. Its largest metropolitan areas are Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton, and Wichita Falls. The principal duties of the Advancement Foundation are: 1) the Management and Investment of Foundation Assets – there exists approx. $80MM in assets that are invested in a diversified portfolio of equities, fixed income, commodities, private funds, private companies and 2) Administration and Management of all diocesan development efforts including but not limited to, Capital Campaigns, The Annual Appeal, The St. John Paul II Shepherd’s Guild, and various endowments related to parishes, schools, and other Catholic organizations.

General Position Summary: Reports to the EVP Finance & Accounting (CFO). Performs all duties at the direction of the CFO. Prepares financial statements of the Advancement Foundation. Executes proper accounting of pooled investments within the endowments and other investments owned by the Foundation, executes proper accounting of accounting of gifts received in all development efforts, prepares reports to ensure excellence in performance against metrics, Assists the CFO in the building and management of a strategic plan that supports the growth opportunities of all Catholic organizations within the Diocese. Executes proper accounting and financial reporting for various majority owned subsidiaries that are included in the investments owned by the Foundation. Supports execution of certain treasury related activities.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Work with third party administrator to reconcile investments and related activity, including preparation journal entries related to investments and fund accounting
  • Perform analysis to ensure investments are carried at the appropriate cost
  • Responsible for ensuring earnings on private investments are accurately calculated and collected.
  • Timely and accurately maintain the books and records of majority held private business.
  • Complete monthly account reconciliations
  • Complete monthly bank/investment activity reconciliations
  • Prepare documentation for external audit.
  • Work closely with the Advancement Gift Processing Team recording restricted and unrestricted cash receipts.
  • Assist with monthly close process
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Support the CFO as needed
  • Must be able to enforce accounting policies set by the organization ensure compliance with all GAAP and FASB standards for nonprofit organizations
  • Provide cash flow forecasting related to endowment distributions and work with Investment advisors to ensure asset allocation is sufficient to meet cash needs

Travel Requirements:

Some travel required, up to 10% throughout the Diocese of Fort Worth, or to investment conferences or development conferences as required.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • B.A. in accounting
  • 2-5 years of experience in investment accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church and, specifically, the financial workings of the Diocese.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and standards.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of computer systems as they relate to financial affairs, especially accounting and spreadsheets. (Microsoft Office platform used for most programs.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present to individuals and large groups.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.


Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding business needs, tight deadlines and heavy workloads.
  • The standard workday is 8 hours Monday-Friday however, candidate needs to be available for meeting or trainings which could take place in the evening or on weekend.
  • Opportunities for remote working offsite for significant periods of time can be considered. Should designed accounting systems, controls, and procedures operate in a web-based environment with appropriate security in place, then this role could include work that is conducted remotely.
