POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the general direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Specialist is a non-lifeguarding position that maintains a safe pool deck and provides supervision to swimming lessons. The Aquatics Specialist purpose is to support the swim instructors by responding to member/participant questions and facilitate general activities on the pool deck including engaging parent in the supervision of their children and ensuring the swim classes are kept organized and start and end as scheduled.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain an active presence during swim programs and camp lessons to ensure that there is ongoing and effective communication with participants and exceptional member service.
  • Provides supervision of the pool deck area, entrances, and high risk/traffic areas.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
  • Assists lifeguards in handling any situations that may occur on the pool deck.
  • Trained in the EAP and the role played.
  • Ensures lessons start and end on time and that program participants are on class rosters and resolve any issues that occur with lessons.
  • In conjunction with the swim instructors, complete the welcome letters and distribute them to the participants’ parents.
  • Assists Aquatics Director with YMCA aquatics programs, camp swim lessons, regular programs, special groups, pilot swim lesson programs and grant swim lessons.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, best practices, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, supporting the associations’ philanthropy efforts. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • The position is identified as safety sensitive and subjected to required, random drug testing as scheduled.
  • Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
  • Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the Y’s disciplinary procedures and respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicates to all employees and volunteers the Y’s commitment to protect our members from abuse.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Do not have to be certified Lifeguards. If a certified LG will not have assigned lifeguarding duties while serving in the role as a deck manager.
  • Minimum age of 21
  • CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen certification preferred- must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Computer Skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher)
  • Excellent human relation skills, experience dealing with conflict, problem-solving, organizational, and good communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift and pull equipment 50 pounds, and to lift a small to average size child.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have ability to work inside and outside (i.e. humidity, hot, cold, inclement weather conditions).
  • Must have ability to concentrate in a loud environment.

HOURLY PAY RATE: $18.00 to $20.00


WORK SCHEDULE:


Monday & Wednesday: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Tuesday & Thursday: 3:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Saturday: 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
