Biologic Nurse (RN or LPN)

Grand River Medical Group is seeking a driven nurse (LPN, RN) to work with our dermatology team. A biologic nurse is an individual, within a dermatologist's office, who manages a patient's journey from prescription to drug acquisition. This role navigates the complexities of patient access on behalf of those prescribed biologics. In addition to drug and disease education, a biologic nurse efforts entail communicating with insurance providers, completing enrollment forms, reviewing benefit verifications, submitting prior authorizations, writing appeals and letters of medical necessity, directing patient assistance and bridge programs, and coordinating all efforts of specialty pharmacies and manufacturer HUBs.
The ideal candidate would possess strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and professionalism. You will be supportive, helpful, and courteous to all team members to provide a high-quality patient experience.
This is a full-time position, 36-40 hours per week with no evening or weekend requirements. All nursing positions have the ability to pick up shifts at other clinic locations as desired. Grand River Medical Group's clinics are typically open from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Obtain prior authorizations for all Biologic medications
- Set up copay assistance or free drug programs for patients that qualify.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of authorization requirements and health plan contracts.
- Work closely with Medicaid and Medicare patients or those that are below income guidelines to help obtain free drugs from the manufacturer.
- Work one-on-one with each patient to renew prior authorizations, ensure they are able to afford their medication and provide assistance related to obtaining the medication.
- Work closely with new biologic patients by providing education, injection training, and support for any unforeseen circumstances that may come about.
- Track appointments for all biologic patients to ensure they are being seen every 3-6 months as required and that they are completing the required lab work on a yearly basis.
- Triage phone calls from biologic patients, biologic specialty pharmacy and biologic manufacturers. Refill biologic medications as needed.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse program.
- One year of RN or LPN experience in a clinic setting preferred.
- Must have an active license to practice in the state of Iowa.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
