Job summary:

     If you are a numbers person with a passion to work in a field that is helping others this may be a role for you. We are looking for a skilled Accountant that will perform a variety of accounting duties according to established policies and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position is responsible for all aspects of Accounting including; payroll, asset management, banking including reconciliations, journal entries, annual 1099 filings, annual giving statements, and insurance management.  Performing day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, computing, posting and recording data.  Preparing finance reports and key performance data.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Associates degree in accounting
  • Five (5) years of accounting experience
  • Experience in journal entries, reconciliation, audit, accounting procedures, budgets, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Public or nonprofit accounting experience


Skills required:

  • Solid understanding of GAAP, FASB, and annual financial audit standards
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to be a team player, demonstrate motivation and exercise discretion, confidentiality, and dependability


Job responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of Accounts Payable System, including vendor selection and evaluation
  • Overseeing Accounts Receivable
  • Provide staff training and support of finance systems
  • Manage contractual commitments database for accurate tracking
  • Review Payroll bi-weekly for accuracy
  • Process monthly general ledger account reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Resolve any discrepancies in ledger accounts
  • Grants management including quarterly reconciliation with funders
  • Review expenditures for account code accuracy and alignment to approved budget
  • Evaluate processes related to financial operations for efficiency and accuracy
  • Prepare journal entries as needed for general ledger accuracy
  • Perform non-routine tasks requiring critical thinking and initiative
