SEASONAL ARBORIST TRAINEE

Wachtel Tree Science, Inc. desires to give a quality experience to seasonal employees. During this time, it is our goal to provide a safe work environment, learning experiences, and exposure to all aspects of a commercial arboriculture firm. During your time you will experience and learn the following

 

Tree and Landscape


  • Instruction and training on carrying out a variety of tree jobs in a safe manner according to ANSI Z-133 standards (including communication, job flow, use of PPE, truck and equipment operation, etc.)
  • Proficiency in the safe operation of a Vermeer chippers.
  • Exposure to client relations and interaction on a work site.
  • Use of a client database system for job management.
  • Use of and/or exposure to a 65’ Altec bucket truck & tracked spider lift (72’ &/or 89’).
  • Use of and/or exposure to Vermeer, Toro, and Rayco Loaders.
  • Use of and/or exposure to an SC252 & SC852 stump grinder.
  • Use of and/or exposure to an air compressor and air knife. Training on stem girdling roots and steps to take to correct them.
  • Training in making proper pruning cuts and branch selection for pruning of trees and shrubs to meet ANSI A-300 specifications.
  • Exposure to cabling and bracing.
  • Exposure to rigging and removal techniques.
  • Use of and/or exposure to chainsaws and hedge shears.
  • Training and hands-on experience in proper planting techniques of trees and shrubs.
  • Training and use of key knots needed for safe tree care work.
  • Introduction to rope and harness climbing dependent on previous knowledge and skill levels.

 

Plant Health Care (If you acquire the Pesticide Category 3.0  - Turf and Landscape you can have a greater exposure to Plant Health Care operations)


  • Experience working with a Plant Health Care spray crew.
  • Assist a Plant Health Care tree injection crew.

 

Sales  (Shadow a Sales Arborist for a day of property reviews/sales)


  • Organization and creating a schedule for the day and week
  • Introduction to Salesperson’s time management
  • Introduction to the Sales Process
  • Introduction to Client Service Database
  • Proposal writing introduction
  • Client interaction from a sales perspective
  • Creating specifications for proposals and work orders
  • Introduction to diagnostic techniques

 

Consulting   (Shadow and assist a Consulting Arborist for a day of a tree inventory)


  • Introduction to the different tools for the data collection process
  • Introduction to inventory data collection process
  • Inform of the real-world application of inventory data in daily urban forest management
  • Inform of the employment opportunities for Consulting Arborists in Arboriculture
