Summary of Position:
The MRO Buyer is responsible for efficiently and cost-effectively procuring goods and services for maintenance, repair, and operations to ensure smooth plant functionality.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop purchasing strategies for selected MRO categories, considering spot buys versus long-term contracts.
- Draft and negotiate contracts with suppliers, including terms and conditions.
- Resolve supplier issues related to quality, delivery, and pricing.
- Support management in strategic MRO cost savings projects.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, engineering, and other departments to determine MRO material requirements.
- Negotiate service contract agreements, focusing on best pricing, service levels, delivery and payment terms, incentives, and penalties.
- Source materials from suppliers at the lowest cost while considering safety, quality, sustainability, reliability, and urgency.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Supply Chain Management.
- At least 3 years of experience in purchasing and negotiating.
- Proficiency in ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of materials operations, materials planning, inventory control, and production scheduling in a lean manufacturing environment.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent work experience in a related field.
Technical and Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) and ERP systems.
- Understanding of contract terms and conditions, and basic contract language.
- Knowledge of warehouse management, including cycle counts, inventory value, consignment, stock programs, and inventory metrics.
- Familiarity with planning and scheduling, including master scheduling, forecasts, setup times, and related metrics.
- Proven negotiation experience in purchasing and supplier relationship management.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and achieve positive results in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and resolution skills.
- Resourceful and highly organized, with attention to detail, accuracy, and quality orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, bend at the knees and waist, and walk.
- Required to use hands to type, handle objects, and paperwork.
- Required to reach and hold items at chest level or above the shoulder.
- May need to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally if needed.
