Job DescriptionJob Description

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Child Support Enforcement Specialist with the Juvenile Court. The employee performs difficult technical work, receiving, posting, and distributing all child support monies received; receives and posts fines, court costs, and restitution; performs related work as required by supervisor. The work of this class requires a high degree of accuracy in accounting methods and practices. Employees in this class have the responsibility of independent action in exercising judgment based upon knowledge acquired through experience. Employees in this position may be required to give court testimony on payment or non-payment of child support. Employees in this position work closely with the Child Support Enforcement Office of the District Attorney General's Office.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of office methods and procedures, and of the operation of common business computer programs; ability to exercise tact and discretion when communicating with the general public; ability to adhere to strict federal, state, and local laws pertaining to child support enforcement, collection, and distribution of funds; ability to adhere to strict accounting principles pertaining to collection and distribution of funds; ability to work independently with limited supervision; ability to keep confidential court records and to prepare accurate reports; ability to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters and to perform routine office management and the general public and to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully skill in the operation of computer equipment. Manual dexterity to work efficiently on computer keyboard for data entry. Extended periods of sitting at a workstation or desk. Ability to speak clearly.

Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or GED, including supplementary training or experience in accounting and bookkeeping; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
